Getting started

What is the fastest way to start?

Create an account, add a manual account or connect a bank on Pro, then review imported transactions. Add monthly category targets after you have a realistic picture of income and spending.

Do I need to connect a bank?

No. Free accounts can use manual transactions and CSV imports indefinitely. Bank sync is optional and is available during a Pro trial or paid Pro subscription.

What happens when a no-card trial ends?

The household returns to the Free plan. You are not charged and your existing data remains available. Bank sync pauses until an owner or admin subscribes to Pro.

Transactions and budgets

Why is a transaction in For Review?

It still needs a category or an explicit approval. Review is a trust checkpoint: confirm the payee and amount, choose a category or split, then approve it.

How are amounts represented?

Across every account, inflows are positive and outflows are negative. Credit cards and other liabilities display a positive amount owed, while charges increase that debt and payments reduce it.

Why does my budget show a funding gap?

Category targets are compared with planned income. If targets exceed income—or income is still zero—Fink shows the uncovered amount instead of presenting the plan as healthy.

Bank connections and data

Fink says my bank needs attention. What should I do?

Open Accounts and reconnect the institution. This commonly happens after a bank changes its sign-in flow, requires a new one-time code, or revokes an older connection.

Can I download my data?

Yes. Open Settings → Data export to download the active household’s complete transaction history as a UTF-8 CSV.

Does Fink store my bank password?

No. Plaid handles bank sign-in. Fink receives account and transaction data plus an encrypted access token, never your bank username or password.

Still stuck?

Email contact@finkfinancial.io with the page you were on and what you expected to happen. Do not send bank passwords, full account numbers, or payment-card details.
